Snoqualmie Mt Overnight Trip
This is the first overnight trip on the snow for me. It was great to learn all the tricks and tips around:
- Melting snow and filtering the water for the food
- Building a table from snow
- Digging in the snow a place for laying down the tent
- Sleep on the snow and checking the level of isolation for your equipment! A must!
Other fun activities & learnings:
- Plunging in the snow and arresting with an ice axe
- Glacier traverse on left and right side with an axe
- Self arrest or arrest others
- Tied to a rope with others (2 or 3)
- Doing all the knots for the rope (figure 8, butterfly, etc.)
- Navigation with GPS, Compass and Map
Highlights for me were around working as a team and forget about yourself and your ego and be there for the team! It’s a great feeling that invalidates you as a person in a way, but it individualizes the team bringing it to a different level! I love that feeling!
Also, I realized that I totally suck at navigation with a compass. I need to learn how to use it without relying on my phone map.
Another learning is around being more scared than others of heights and traversing those water log “bridges” with weight on me.
